EXCLUSIVE ANNOUNCEMENT: Tradd Moore's original art for THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE drops tomorrow, Saturday May 23rd, at 9AM PDT/12PM EDT! Over 40 pieces, pages plus covers!
THE STRANGE TALENT OF LUTHER STRODE is Tradd's debut work (from 2011...almost 10 years ago!) and it has always held a special place in his heart. All the hallmarks of Tradd's style were evident early: The impossibly precise line; the insane detail; the inventive layouts; the crazy action; and, of course, nary a drop of whiteout. STRANGE TALENT announced the arrival of a generational talent; fans who caught on early saw it, and over the ensuing years, so has everyone else.
Tradd remains immensely proud of this work. Hence, why he's held onto these pages all these years. But he now feels it's the right time to let them go. Mainly because he knows that his newest original art can be prohibitively costly for many fans as his market value has skyrocketed over the last few years. Especially after SILVER SURFER: BLACK (SS:B pages have been amongst the highest valued modern art). And with that, his commission rates have also jumped dramatically. Everything has sold out, including every single spot on his commission list, so the market has spoken. But he would still like to make some of his art available to as many of his fans as possible.
So to that end...I am happy to tell you that we will be making over 40 pages available tomorrow...and none will be over $500! The vast majority will be under $300! This is far less than even a bust sketch from Tradd!
This is also all the LUTHER STRODE art that he has left. After this, there will be no more from us. This reminds me of the time I saw Frank Quitely at a signing in San Francisco. He had brought with him three portfolios of original art to sell. I flipped through them looking to buy something; I ended up with nothing. There was just so much, that I couldn't imagine there would come a time when it would all be gone. So I decided to wait. You can guess how that worked out for me (i.e. not well). In retrospect, I should have bought it all! Or at least just one page...it was still affordable, and I didn't fully appreciate at the time just how special each page was.
Looking over this STRANGE TALENT art now, I'm getting a feeling of deja vu: A pile of affordable art in front of me by a very special artist. But as I already own a complete issue of Tradd's work (and then some!), I'll let you guys have all the fun tomorrow. Set your alarms, and maybe you'll get to own your piece of the strange talent of Tradd Moore. Thanks everyone and good luck!
