Yuko Shimizu's original art for the monumental Criterion Collection box set, GODZILLA: THE SHOWA ERA FILMS, 1954-1975, will drop tomorrow, Thursday December 19th, at 9AM PST/12PM EST!
Criterion has long been recognized as the premier label for prestige DVD/Blu-ray packages. And this new GODZILLA collection is being hailed as one of their most impressive sets ever!
Criterion's standard for art and design is renowned, so much so that it warranted a coffee-table art book, CRITERION DESIGNS. So it was quite an honor for Yuko to be selected to provide all the key art (including box front/back covers, interior spread, promotional pieces, and more) for Criterion's landmark 1000th release. For Godzilla fans, this may be the most significant art to be made available to the public. Not just culturally important, but home media art may have also replaced modern movie poster art in cachet. Certainly, with this box set now an obligatory addition to any serious movie collection, this art will be instantly recognizable to film connoiseurs all over the world for decades to come.
Yuko's art for this GODZILLA collection has recently won a Gold Medal from the Society of Illustrators. Her peers know. When you see the scans of the original art tomorrow, you will, too. Every single piece will be available, including all sketches/studies (starting at $100!). As a bonus, each published piece will come with a special 1/1 giclee color print of that art signed by Yuko. Good luck, talk soon!
