PAUL POPE! All-new art drop tomorrow, Fri. 7/24, at 9AM PDT/12PM EDT! #SDFC2020!
Published on July 23, 2020
The first two days of San Diego Felix Con are over...and the tally so far: 82 out of 82 pieces of art SOLD! That's right, every single piece we've dropped so far has sold. Thank you for this incredible turnout! SDFC 2020 is a smash hit!
And it's all a lead-in to our biggest star-studded event of the show: All-new PAUL POPE original art drops tomorrow, Friday July 24th, at 9AM PDT/12PM EDT! Over 40 pieces of never-before-offered art, including a large selection of affordable pieces!
This was going to be the Year of Pope at the real San Diego Comic-Con. A huge announcement from a major publisher for Paul's newest project (trust us, it's as big as it gets) would bring Paul back for his first official SDCC appearance since 2007, when he won Eisner Awards for Best Writer/Artist and Best Limited Series for BATMAN: YEAR 100. And we had major plans for it, including special fan-participation events. Alas, it was not to be.
But we're still going to celebrate anyway, and you all get to join in on the fun. Paul has opened up the vaults and released a beautiful assortment of art, from covers to illustrations to...yes, pages. Paul has been very generous with me in making art available to fans, but he hasn't let many of his panel pages go. They're the most precious to him, as he sees his storytelling as his most personal work. So I'm happy to tell you that he's given me pages from his fantastic X-STATIX issue...and you'll all get a shot tomorrow! Each page a gem! Every time we've had pages from Paul, from BATMAN: YEAR 100 to his Adam Strange story from WEDNESDAY COMICS, they are the first to go. So don't miss your chance tomorrow!
And in keeping with the spirit of SDFC, we will also have lots of cool affordable pieces so that everyone has the opportunity to own their own Pope original! Starting at just $20!! With most under $100!
Last note: We are thrilled with the response to our inaugural SDFC. However, we know that the increased attention has made the art more difficult to get for everyone. Many of you have noted how the site has been slower to load at the drop than usual. I'm sorry that not everyone has been able to get anything. If it's any consolation...most people haven't. The vast majority have been great sports about it. It's been suggested to us by others that we should raise prices or go to auction format to tamp down demand, and make it easier for those left standing to buy the art. But we prefer to keep doing things as we have, even if it means the site can get overloaded at times. I'm open to input, however, and if more people believe we should do things differently, I will consider it for future editions.
But for now, we keep chugging along. And tomorrow, it's the Year of Pope, SDFC-style! Good luck, have fun, talk soon!
