A note about EAST OF WEST original art...
Published on July 19, 2014
For those who don't know, art for EAST OF WEST is primarily drawn digitally by Nick Dragotta. These days, many comic book artists employ digital tools in the creation of their art; this is done for many reasons, perhaps chief among them speed (a critical element in meeting deadlines). Thus, outside of a few pieces, there has been virtually no traditional pen/ink art available from EAST OF WEST to date.
But the demand for pen/ink art for this series is great. Therefore, I have asked Nick to hand-ink (over pencils or digital layouts) certain pages and covers from the series for the collector market. These are one-of-a-kind, and will never be drawn by Nick again. They are also magnificent and should be considered original art in their own right.
Nick has drawn a few samples for display at SDCC. Collectors are welcome to view them in person. If anyone has a specific page or cover they would like from Nick, please let me know at that time.
Going forward, Nick plans on drawing covers and select pages tradtionally. For example, the cover for EAST OF WEST #14 was drawn by Nick in pen/ink, NOT digitally. He has donated it to a worthy cause, CBLDF, and it will be a featured item at their SDCC art auction.
As always, feel free to write me with any questions. Looking forward to meeting fans at the show!
