The original art for the most highly-acclaimed new book of the year has arrived...IAN BERTRAM's LITTLE BIRD #1 drops tomorrow, Friday March 29th, at 9AM PDT/12PM EDT!
Ian has followed up critical darling HOUSE OF PENANCE (for which he was nominated for the 2018 Angoulême International Comics Festival Prize for Best Album, one of the few Americans to ever receive that honor) with an even more well-received work. The reviews have been rapturous. Some examples:
Dark, surreal, and addictive, Little Bird #1 is a fresh reinvention of the post-apocalyptic political drama that hits the ground running from its first panel and dares you to keep up.
“Little Bird” is revolutionary dystopian sci-fi at its best, a classic from issue #1. Read it now, before it’s on all the “top 10 of 2019” lists later.
Little Bird, a fascinating fable writ strong and deep and illustrated tremendously. Tumultuous, depraved, and striking. Weird characters, stranger story, lots of interesting innovations regarding the writing of comics. It works as fantasy, it works as science fiction, as politics, as satire, as future anthropology. All in all, Little Bird stands out as fresh, urgent, nuanced, and essential reading.
In short, Little Bird #1 is a masterpiece – it’s that rare kind of comic that tells a compelling story (with an unexpected twist at the end of the issue which I didn’t see coming), couples it with mesmerizing artwork, and plays with the comics format, using process to deepen and enrich the power of the story. It’s a weird and wonderful journey into chaos, and I’m extremely excited to see how future issues develop.
Little Bird #1 is one hell of a debut comic, a likely contender best #1 comic of the year. I know we’re only halfway through the second month, but is so good that I’m confident in saying that. Little Bird #1 is the type of immersive story you pick up, blink, and realize you’ve read the whole thing without stopping, without even considering putting it down.
And a piece dedicated to Ian's art:
A special and unique talent, there just isn't anyone like Ian in comics now. And there's been no better showcase for him than LITTLE BIRD. He's given this project his all, producing all pages at an oversized 12"X18". Fair warning for art collectors: There will be five issues in all for this series. We have sent one complete issue to France for a gallery exhibition later this year. At least one other issue will sell complete. Ian may keep an issue for himself. So there's a very good possibility that there might be only two issues worth of art available from us for collectors. Don't miss your chance tomorrow; not only to get a page, but from a #1 issue, too!
Ian Bertram. LITTLE BIRD #1. Original art. Tomorrow! Good luck!
